Light out to see holiday displays
The 2005 list of houses in the area nominated by readers as best holiday displays.
Date published: 12/11/2005

IT TOOK ME more than 340 miles this week to visit 140 houses to prepare for my 15th annual Grand Holiday Displays list.

It was mostly a fun exercise, especially in special moments that cropped up on my travels from Boswells Corner to Belmont, from Colonial Beach to Unionville.

One of those moments came when I heard Christmas carols playing from a church speaker in Colonial Beach, as I looked out over Monroe Bay to see Christmas lights reflected from the far shore.

Another happened near Lake Anna when I passed a Christmas tree farm at Belmont.

With a fresh mantle of white covering the hillside as the light of day gave way, the sight of the snow-dappled trees and the Christmas music on the radio made a memory not soon forgotten.

When all that traveling was done, I pared down the list to the homes included below. Everything from the number of decorations and lights to ease of finding the homes figured in.

So, as I always say, grab the eggnog and Aunt Edna, pile into your motor cruiser and use the following list to let the official 2005 light-viewing season begin.
