Billy E. Powell

Billy E. Powell, 59, a resident of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at the family residence.

Billy was the son of the late Jean Marie Oakes Powell and Leonard Franklin Powell.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps.

At the time of his death, he was employed with US Airways in Chattanooga with over 20 years of service, working with ground operations.

Billy was a 5th degree black belt in Isshin-Ryu karate. He started his karate training in Japan. He was a longtime instructor with Shamblin's Karate. Billy was an adventurer! He loved fishing and white water rafting. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Powell of Cleveland; his son, Michael Powell and his wife, Kristin, of King George County; his grandchildren, Sarah Powell, Kendall Powell and Riley Powell, all of King George; his two close cousins, Ann Burns of Indiana and Cathy Fisher of North Carolina; and many other cousins also surviving.

The remembrance of life graveside service and interment will be conducted Monday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. CST in Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walden Beach, Fla., with military honors.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bradley Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 2305 Chambliss Ave., Cleveland, Tenn. 37311.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes, who has charge of the arrangements.
