Spotsylvania School Board stands by Hill

Spotsylvania County School Board reaffirms faith in superintendent

Spotsylvania School Board members unanimously reaffirmed their faith in besieged Superintendent Jerry Hill during a closed meeting yesterday.

School Board members released a statement via e-mail that read in part: "Dr. Hill will continue to oversee and direct the operations of this school division. This board and the school division will continue with business and will work in cooperation with the county regarding budget and additional challenges facing both the school division and the county."

The statement said the School Board would not make any further comments until charges against Hill are resolved.

Hill was indicted Tuesday on charges of violating state election law and obstruction of justice. The misdemeanor charges stem from fliers paid for and circulated by the School Board last fall that supervisors said advocated the defeat of a bond referendum.

Some supervisors had suggested this week that School Board members consider asking Hill to temporarily step down until the case is resolved.
