John Charles Von Ancken, 72, of Locust Grove passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Beverly Health Care at Fredericksburg.
Mr. Von Ancken was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served as a pilot in the Korean War.
He graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for some 30 years. During that time, he worked with a team building radar systems in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world. After the FAA, he went to work as a project leader for MTS Technologies. He was a very avid sports spectator and a die-hard Redskins fan.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Susan W. Von Ancken; his mother, Agnes Rose Von Ancken of Hillsdale, N.Y.; his son, Curtis Von Ancken and his wife, Angie, of Falls Church; his stepsons, Jack Carsrud of New Braunfels, Texas, and John Carsrud of Canton, Texas; his brother, Billy Charles Von Ancken and his wife, Jean, of Hillsdale; his sister, Rosemary Lueken and her husband, Eddie, of Hyde Park, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Colin, Crystal and Tyler Carsrud of Houston. He also is survived by former daughters-in-law, Mikiko Shikano of Tokyo, Japan, and Mona Carsrud of Houston.
A celebration of Mr. Von Ancken's life will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Lake of the Woods Church. Pastor Tom Schafer will officiate. Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania, is handling arrangements.
