Acoustic Roots

Bluemont Concert Series
This is the 25th year Bluemont will stage summer concerts. Smoking and alcohol are prohibited at all shows. Pets are not allowed in the concert areas. Tickets are sold on-site on the evening of the concert; there are no advance ticket sales. At press time, Bluemont performers had not been confirmed. Here are some details about upcoming concerts in six communities in the Fredericksburg area.
l Colonial Beach . Concerts are scheduled during Colonial Beach Market Days at 11 a.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month. Shows will take place under the tent on the lawn of the Town Green, at the intersection of Washington and Colonial avenues. Admission is free; donations to support Bluemont programs in local schools are welcome. May 27, June 24, July 22, Aug. 26, Sept. 23.
l Culpeper . Concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evenings on the lawn of the Old County Courthouse, 25 W. Davis St. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont friends and seniors, and $2 for kids 12 and under. July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28, Aug. 4, Aug. 11.
l Fredericksburg . Concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evenings at Maury stadium, located at Kenmore Avenue and Hanover Street. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont friends and seniors, and $2 for kids 12 and under. June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, Aug. 26.
l Spotsylvania . Concerts will take place at 7 p.m. on Sundays on the lawn of the Marshall Center at 8800 Courthouse Road. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont friends and seniors, and $2 for kids 12 and under. July 9, July 16, July 23.
l Stafford . Concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays on the lawn of Porter Library at 2001 Parkway Blvd. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont friends and seniors, and $2 for kids 12 and under. June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28, Aug. 4.
l Warrenton . Concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays on the lawn of the Old Shadowlawn Center at 73 Culpeper St. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont friends and seniors, and $2 for kids 12 and under. First Friday Parties
These outdoor block parties for the entire family are held on the first Friday of each month through October. A celebration of the arts and music, the events include live outdoor concerts and exhibit openings at various downtown galleries. First Fridays take place in the lot next to the Fredericksburg Visitor Center on Caroline Street from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Entrance costs $4 for adults, $3 for ages 13-20, and $2 for ages 6-12. Lunch at Hurkamp Park
These free midday concerts take place 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays in May and June. Shows take place at Hurkamp Park at the corner of Prince Edward and William streets. Visitors can bring their own picnics or buy lunch from vendors who set up in the park. For details, call 540/372-1086.

Music on the Steps
These free concerts take place Mondays, 7-8 p.m., in front of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library headquarters on Caroline Street in Fredericksburg. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic supper to listen to a variety of music. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held inside in the library theater.
