Walter D. Hanson

Walter Daniel "Doc" Hanson, 75, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., died Sunday, May 14, 2006.

Born in Manchester, Md., he was the only son of Guy Leroy Hanson and Addie Mae Dienst Hanson, both of whom died before his 12th birthday. He also was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Hanson and Betty Nagle Hanson VonDreele.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lois Kathryn Bernier Hanson; and their seven children, Carol Lee Hanson Henson and her husband, John, Lynn Marie Hanson Feria and her husband, Bill, Walter D. "Mick" Hanson Jr. and his wife, Patty, Mary Cathryn Hanson Davis, Richard James "Dickie" Hanson and his wife, Tara, Kelly Ann Hanson Floyd and her husband, Scott, and Douglas Alan Hanson and his wife, Shannon.

Doc was the proud grandfather of Kathryn Henson, Matthew Henson, Ryan Henson, Joel Martin, Alexis Feria, W. Daniel Hanson III, Christopher Hanson, Sarah Hanson, Jordan Hanson, Brooke Hanson, Taylor Hanson, Tanner Hanson, Alexander Hanson Floyd, Colin Floyd and Jackson Floyd. He also is survived by a nephew, John H. VonDreele.

Mr. Hanson wanted to be remembered for growing up at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, Pa.; serving his country in the military with honor, having received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart in Korea; marrying and being true to one woman his entire life, whom he "loved more with each passing day;" and being a good father to his seven children.

Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

Funeral and interment with full military honors will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
