Marty West
Linwood Martin "Marty" West Jr., 62, of Stafford County died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Mary Washington Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Davis West; children, Erin, Rebecca and Robert West, all of the home, and Ann Marie Scroggin and her husband, Todd, and their children, Ashley and Nicholas Scroggin, all of Stafford; his mother, Mary Lee West Seeber of Alexandria; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Charles Barnes of Alexandria; a brother, Daniel West of Boulder, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Linwood M. West Sr. Mr. West was born and raised in Alexandria, where he graduated from George Washington High School. He also received an associate degree from American University. Mr. West retired as a sergeant in the Alexandria Police Department after 31 years of service, and most recently was driving a Head Start bus for Stafford County schools. He volunteered with North Stafford High School softball team and was a huge sports fan, especially baseball and the Atlanta Braves. A funeral will be conducted at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Stafford, at noon on Friday, with the Rev. Jay Burress and the Rev. Juan Rivera officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, and from 10:30 a.m. until noon Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Ararat Baptist Church, 65 Toluca Road, Stafford, Va. 22556; or to Midway Baptist Church for missions, 791 Telegraph Road, Stafford, Va. 22554.
