While I appreciate the coverage The Free Lance-Star provided on how county leaders are working with the private sector to solve our major transportation problems, readers should know that the graphic that accompanied the story was incorrect ["Route 3 bypass re-emerges," April 28]. Apparently, it was an outdated map of a mutation of Outer Connector options. The map showed the route going farther west than anyone currently anticipates or desires. While the exact route and many details of the proposed bypass are still undetermined, please be assured that it is not anyone's intention to encroach on battlefield sites, as the map indicated. What is important for readers to take away from the story is the knowledge that while the General Assembly remains deadlocked on transportation funding, some of us in local government are working with other regional jurisdictions and the private sector to find creative, multimodal solutions to our traffic problems. We understand the frustration people feel about traffic congestion, and we are working to fix it, including the commitment to pursue funding. All we're asking Richmond and the secretary of transportation to do in this particular case is to say "yes" to I-95 access issues so that we can get the job done. I urge readers to support our efforts and contact our General Assembly delegation and say that if they're not going to help us with funding transportation any time soon, then at least help us by asking the secretary of transportation to be more responsive to our needs.
