Stafford, fund schools instead of Crow's Nest

I find it extremely disturbing that the Stafford Board of Supervisors can find $30 million to purchase Crow's Nest, but they cannot fully fund our schools ["Crow's Nest offer is $30.5 million," May 24].

Have they decided that the heron are more important than the children?

Probably not, but they have become so intertwined with purchasing this property that it has put their good common sense away.

Our children--and I mean "our" in the community sense, as both of my children have graduated--should be our No. 1 priority.

If we can afford $30 million for birds, we can easily afford $14 million for the schools.

K&M Properties seems to have made several offers to set aside a significant amount of the land, at no cost to the taxpayer.

Stafford County supervisors, please come to your senses. Drop Crow's Nest, and fund the schools.
