Polo trots into The Plains

June 15, 2006 12:50 am

Thoroughbred horses, celebrity polo players and gourmet tailgating will be the stars this weekend at a pair of polo events.

The third annual Courage Cup charity polo match will be held Saturday at Great Meadow Polo Club in The Plains.

The event was de-signed to bring together Washington's young professionals and the polo community for a good cause, and it has become a summer tradition. It will be held in conjunction with the Ambassador's Cup polo match, featuring celebrity polo players, including Mathias Guerrand-Hermes and Salvatore Ferragamo.

The event benefits Work to Ride, which provides inner-city and disadvantaged children with the opportunity to participate in equestrian sports, including polo. The organization targets children ages 7 to 18, and uses horses and horse-related sports as a means to engage urban youth in wholesome, constructive activities.
