Surely letter-writer James Hughes must have things wrong ["Stafford, fund schools instead of Crow's Nest," June 9]. I can't believe that our Stafford Board of Supervisors would actually even consider using $30 million of our tax money for anything other than to cover the proposed school budget. Why are they so quick to help Crow's Nest, yet are not able to find the $14 million for the school system? There seems to be a new subdivision on our roads every time I drive down them. If these subdivisions are approved, then it should be assumed that children are coming to those houses. More children going to the same number of schools equals considerable crowding. Crowded classes equals frazzled, underpaid teachers. Let's be realistic. Let the people who already own land and have houses in the Crow's Nest area fight this fight. It seems that they weren't too concerned about the ecology of the area when they put their houses there. Why the sudden change of heart? Think about it. Let the supervisors know that you would rather the money be used to fund the proposed school budget for 2006-07. We obviously need more schools and more teachers and aides. Our children need the art and drama departments. They need the extra classes, dual enrollment, etc. I have children who have benefited from all these programs and have continued their higher education, thanks to these offerings. Come on, now. Put the really important things first. Education is No. 1. Crow's Nest is down the list somewhere. Wanda CushingStafford
