Suspect sought in Heritage Park shoot-out
18-year-old shooting suspect wanted on nine charges

Fredericksburg police have identified the man wounded in Tuesday’s shoot-out in Heritage Park as 18-year-old Ricky Edmonds.

Edmonds, who is wanted on nine charges, was spotted back at the apartment complex Thursday but police were unable to apprehend him, city police spokesman Jim Shelhorse said.

The officers who saw Edmonds were on foot at the time and the car Edmonds was riding in had gotten away by the time police cruisers arrived.

The woman who was driving the car was identified as Disha Lashley, 26. She is charged with three offenses, including eluding police, and also has not yet been apprehended.

Shelhorse said Edmonds was shot in the right leg during Tuesday’s incident. Police would not say whether they know the identity of the other gunman.

Numerous shots were fired Tuesday afternoon at the complex off Fall Hill Avenue. A significant amount of blood and shell casings were found, but the combatants were long gone.

The back windshield of a one car was completely shot out, and the right front headlight of another vehicle was shot. Police said one stray round entered an apartment, but no one inside was hit. The front glass window of the building had bullet holes.

Two different calibers of ammunition were found at the scene, and the shots appeared to have been fired from at least two different directions.

Shelhorse said police were back at the complex Thursday when they saw Edmonds in a gold, late-model Toyota rental car with four other people.

Police had information that Edmonds was one of Tuesday’s shooters, Shelhorse said, and had been hit in the leg.

As officers approached the car on foot, police said, Edmonds brandished a handgun and the car took off.

Shelhorse said police heard a young woman screaming, “it’s the police, stop!” Moments later, a woman jumped out of the vehicle and was struck as the car sped out of the complex.

The woman who was hit declined medical treatment, Shelhorse said.

Among Edmonds’ charges are aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, eluding police, hit and run and obstruction of justice.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Edmonds and Lashley is asked to call city police at 372-1055. Shelhorse said Edmonds should be considered armed and dangerous.
