Walter Richardson

Walter Preston Richardson Jr., 61, retired middle and high school guidance counselor for Fairfax County public schools, died of cancer Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at his home in Fredericksburg.

Mr. Richardson was born in Franklin. He graduated from Virginia Union University and was awarded a master's degree from Virginia State University.

Survivors include his wife, Flora; two daughters, Sonja Richardson and Stacey Yonkers; one sister, Joyce Armour; one granddaughter, Simone Richardson; one son-in-law, Glen Yonkers Jr.; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 24, at Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), 801 Sophia St., Fredericksburg. The viewing will start at 11 a.m., with the service at noon.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 25, in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 8741 Lewinsville Road, McLean.

Service of comfort entrusted to Chinn-Baker Funeral Service, 2605 S. Shirlington Road, Arlington.
