I read Kathryn Purinton's letter, in which she wrote that she was tired of paying for other people's children's education ["Parents, quit whining ," June 25].
Education is the most important thing that our taxes fund. Without education, our society would become a cesspool of drugs, crime, and hate.
Crow's Nest may be a special place, but without education, who is going to protect sites like that?
The ecologists and biologists who more than likely made their starts in public schools would not be in the positions they are in if not for those tax dollars.
Taxes go not only to education, but also to emergency services, roads, public services, and countless other programs that go to everyone, with or without children, including Ms. Purinton.
It's sad that people with an attitude like Ms. Purinton's will always complain about having to give something back to the community that gives so much to them.
All children, including stepchildren, are the future of this country. They deserve every chance they can get.
