The keystone of our society, the rule of law, is being flouted by (depending on whose numbers you believe) at least 11 million illegals from different countries, but predominantly Mexico. Our laws are being broken with the connivance of many American citizens who for selfish reasons wish to exploit these illegal immigrants by paying them subsistence wages, thereby depressing wages for Americans. There is no good argument to condone this winking by our elected officials at these lawbreakers who come here illegally. These illegal immigrants are "takers" of free medical care, welfare, school money, and on and on. It's not that I am "anti" any national or ethnic group. I am for obeying our laws. There is a legal way to come to this country, and we should not excuse or condone those who break our laws to get here. This flouting of our laws is a cancer eating away at our society. We had better begin now to work out a plan to send these interlopers back to where they came from. Recently, Sen. George Allen was described as "one tough border collie." I have a feeling that Rep. Eric Cantor also can be characterized with those words, judging from his statements. When 11 million people are excused from obeying our laws, how soon will we have 11 million more undocumented people in this country? What does that say to the rest of us? We need to act now.
