John M. Minor Jr.
John Melvin Minor Jr., 62, of Paterson, N.J., died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson.
Born Aug. 22, 1943, in Spotsylvania County, he was the son of the late John Melvin Minor Sr. and Alethia Minor. He was known as Punkin to his family and friends.
A graduate of John J. Wright Consolidated School in Snell, he had retired as a diesel mechanic from Marcal Paper Co. in Elmwood, N.J. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1966, and had a tour of duty in Korea as an intelligence specialist.
He was a member and past mas-ter of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge 50 in Hackensack, N.J., and an active member of the Golcanda Shriner's Temple 41 in Newark, N.J. and the Order of Eastern Star. He was assistant football coach at Paterson Catholic Regional High School, with championship years in 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Lecia Y. Minor; a son, Justin; a daughter, Jalisa; four brothers, Donald, Calvin, Andrew and Wayne; three sisters, Arlene, Ruth and Mary; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 16. A graveside service will be held in Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Spotsylvania, at 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, with the Rev. W. Robinson officiating.
