Raymond Thoman
Raymond H. Thoman, 91, of Normandie Ridge, York, Pa., formerly of Lake of the Woods, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006. He was the husband of Clara Brice Thoman, with whom he celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary on Dec. 17, 2005. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, Pa., 717/235-6822, with the Rev. Peter A. Seiler, chaplain of Normandie Ridge, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Thoman was born Sept. 9, 1914, in York County, Pa., a son of the late Grover and Emma Wag-ner Thoman. He graduated from Glen Rock High School and Juniata College and received his master's degree in education from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. He retired in 1980 from Butler County Community College, Butler, Pa., where he was employed as the director of the counseling center. Prior to that, he was employed as the editor-in-chief for a chain of weekly newspapers in Mercer County and had been the education editor for The Herald newspaper in Sharon, Pa., for over 25 years. Following his retirement, he and his wife had lived at Lake of the Woods, where he was the editor of The Church Mouse, a newsletter for The Lake of the Woods Church. He also enjoyed golf, reading and gardening. Besides his wife, he also leaves a daughter, Ruth "Becky" Lindberg of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Raymond B. Thoman of Alexandria and Timothy C. Thoman of Amissville; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Innerst of York. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter H. Thoman, and a daughter, Lucinda A. Fuerle.
