The U-18 FASA Impact have impressive start

U-18 FASA has good start to season

During the last two weeks of August, the U-18 FASA Impact played in the Sun Cup College Showcase, faced off against three college teams, and opened regular season play during the last two weeks of August.

The team plays its regular season games in the prestigious Virginia Club Champions League.

The Impact opened their VCCL season with a 2-0 win against the U-18 Kickers premiere squad. On Aug. 25, the Impact played friendly matches against Averett University, Ferrum College and Sweet Briar College and came away with three impressive wins, not giving up a single goal while scoring 12 goals of their own.

At the Sun Cup Showcase, the Impact scored nine goals while allowing only four. The team's only loss was to the BeachFC premiere team that was a State Cup semi-finalist last year.

Outstanding team effort and camaraderie led the way in all games, and that's what Impact soccer is all about. Defensively, the team was led by the exceptional play of central defenders Stacy Hererra and Stacy Fletcher; and outside backs Kayla Patterson, Christine Kaila and T. Kizer.

At the Sun Cup, goals were scored by Kirsty Meyer, Bailey Wilcox, Kara Blosser, Christine Kaila, Vicki Fessler and Korri Iracane. Assists were chalked up by Stacy Flecher, Meredyth Frye, JoAnna Debrouse, Kayla Patterson, Christine Kaila, Kara Blosser, Becky Garrett and Vicki Fessler. Jamie Alcala recorded 12 saves in goal.

In the games against the college teams, goals were scored by Bailey Wilcox, Kayla Patterson, Christine Kaila, Kirsty Meyer, Meredyth Frye, Korri Iracane and Vicki Fessler. Assists were scored by Stacy Fletcher, Vicki Fessler, Bailey Wilcox, Kirsty Meyer, Christine Kaila, Stacy Hererra, Korri Iracane and Becky Garrett. Jamie had three shutouts as keeper.

For the season-opener, goals were scored by Bailey Wilcox and Korri Iracane. Stacy Fletcher scored an assist.

The Impact players represent several area high schools including Riverbend, Chancellor, Massaponax, Courtland and Colonial Forge. Many of these players have been All-Area and first team All-District, All-Region and All-State over the past two years. The team is part of the FASA Hotspur organization and is coached by Pete Cinalli.
