The U-18 FASA Impact remains undefeated and in first place in the Virginia Club Champions League after playing two of the top teams in the league.
The Impact started with an impressive win against the U-18 Virginia Nike Rush Premiere. Both teams came into the match undefeated. The very intense first half ended in a 0-0 tie. The Rush struck first about 5 minutes into the second half, scoring off a corner kick. The Impact answered right back within minutes to tie the match. Joanna Debrouse scored off an assist from Bailey Wilcox after the Impact moved the ball from the back through the midfield to create the opportunity. A few minutes later the Impact took a 2-1 lead when Meredyth Frye sent a through-ball to Bailey Wilcox who beat the last defender and the keeper with a near post finish. With about 20 minutes remaining the Impact took a 3-1 lead when Stacy Fletcher made a run from her central defensive back spot into the attacking third and played a great ball to Bailey who once again put it in the net. From that point, the exceptional play of Vicki Fessler, Meredyth Frye, Kirsty Meyer and Brianna Stout in the midfield and Christine Kaila, Kayla Patterson, Stacy Hererra and Stacy Fletcher in defense preserved the victory. Jamie Alcala was once again stellar in goal. The Rush scored as time ran out on a direct kick from right outside the box to make the final score 3-2. It took a total team effort and that is what the Impact got. Quality minutes were also turned in from Korri Iracane, Becky Garrett, Kate Bell, Syd Hitchens and T. Kizer.
On Sunday they faced the Roanoke Star Premiere, who also entered the match with no losses in league play and having tied the BeachFC and Virginia Rush.
After a rocky start, and falling behind 3-1 about 10 minutes into the second half, the Impact displayed their team character and fought back--taking a 4-3 lead with about 10 minutes to go. The Impact had a fifth goal called back on an offsides call. Roanoke scored with less than a minute remaining to tie the match 4-4.
Scoring for the Impact were Bailey Wilcox, Vicki Fessler, Korri Iracane and Becky Garrett. Assists from Stacy Fletcher, Kirsty Meyer, Korri Iracane and Vicki Fessler. Stacy Herrera was a standout defensively. The Impact's VCCL league record is now 4-0-1. Beach FC and Virgina Rush Nike are 3-1-1. Roanoke has a 2-3-0 record.
The Impact will travel to Virginia Beach for a College Showcase Tournament over the Columbus Day weekend.
