Why do female offenders get the lighter sentences?
Bonnie Sue Davis is being treated differently than a man ["Teacher pleads to misdemeanors," Sept. 23]. If a male teacher had been found in the company of a 15-year-old girl with his pants off, he would be in jail--and for longer than a year or two. If that didn't happen, the public would be up in arms. Why is it when a woman teacher (which seems to be all the rave) seduces a male student, she is not prosecuted as a man would be? There was a case in Florida, and now there's one here. They may not use force, but emotionally tricking a boy into sleeping with them is rape, period. As a parent of a child who is in the Spotsylvania school system, I am terrified that this sends the wrong message. Daniel Mahon Spotsylvania
