Daisy Contreras, 2, is assisted by her 13-year-old big brother, Julio, as she gives volunteer Ron Combs a 'high five' after the 'pink dragon' took her turn at the jack-o'-lantern bean bag toss. New to the neighborhood, this was the first Stafford Lakes Homeowners Association Fall Festival the Contreras family had attended.

Stafford Lakes hosts festival

The Stafford Lakes Homeowners Association hosted its annual Fall Festival on Oct. 29. The festival is organized and run by the association's Social Committee.

The event included several varieties of tossing games such as the "giant spider," "monster head" and bucket bean bag tosses. The most popular toss game, though, seemed to be the giant cutout board in which bean bags are tossed through the eyes, nose and mouth of a jack-o'-lantern.

Children also were able to go "pumpkin bowling" by rolling a plastic pumpkin at ten ghost and pumpkin pins.

The really brave of heart donned a blindfold and stuck a hand into one of three cauldrons full of ghastly gooey and creepy-crawly things in an attempt to pull out a prize. Those not inclined to stick a hand into icky cauldrons could simply pick a treat from a lollipop tree.

Among the other activities were a pumpkin patch where children could paint their own pumpkins and a tattoo parlor and face painting booth where children could get a temporary tattoo or face paint applied.

Children were awarded candy treats and small toys for successfully completing games at the festival. All attendees were treated to popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and soda during the event.
