I was born and raised here in Stafford County, on a farm that is adjacent to Crow's Nest. There is no way to describe the beauty and importance of this sacred place; it is a veritable living, breathing gem. Allowing developers to bulldoze through it is not only a crime, but a sin. We are being presented with an amazing opportunity. Here, in this county, we can show America that we cannot be bought, and we will not be silent. Can we be complacent as developers like Stafford Lakes continue on their path to turn our home into a concrete, corporate wasteland? Or will we fight for the Earth, stand up for our home, for our children? Will the wonder of Crow's Nest be just a whisper to them, or a reality? Elected officials have a duty to stand up not only for their home, but for us as well. Why not be a shining example of what is right, rather than what is profitable? Progress has been made, but all of this land must be preserved, not just a portion of it. Will they stand up for that which cannot defend itself? And to those who will profit from the destruction of Crow's Nest, to paraphrase Bob Dylan, "All the money you make can never buy back your soul." Crow's Nest does not belong to any one person or corporation, despite what all the lawyers, all the deeds, and all the judges might say. It belongs to the Earth, just as every human being reading this does. If we create an environment of complicity with those who wish devastation upon beauty, nature, and history, we may as well be holding the ax. Yamini Singh Stafford
