R. Chester Bryant

Ralph Chester Bryant, 80, a lifelong resident of Stafford County, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at Mary Washington Hospital.

He was born June 30, 1926. Mr. Bryant was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from civil service after several years at Quantico Marine Base. Mr. Bryant was co-founder and part owner of Bryant's Garage in Stafford after retiring from civil service. He worked as a special policeman for Stafford County for a while and operated R. Bryant's Enterprises selling collectibles and antiques until he was no longer able.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. As a member of Fredericksburg Moose Lodge 1655, he served as governor and obtained the highest degree of pilgrim. Chester also helped with the reorganization of Stafford Moose Lodge 2215.

Mr. Bryant enjoyed spending time visiting with customers at his son's garage where he shared his great sense of humor. He also enjoyed caring for his black Labs and restoring antique tractors. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret Wood Bryant; two sons, Joseph Allen Bryant and Dana Ralph Bryant, both of Stafford; two grandchildren, Todd Bryant and his wife, Heather, and Kristi Bryant Fines and her husband, Barrett, all of Mechanicsville; three sisters, Joyce Bryant Breeden and her husband, David, Kitty Bryant Emory, all of Fredericksburg, and Peggy Bryant Mabrey and her husband, Dorman, of Houston, Texas; one brother, Ralph L. Bryant and his wife, Mary, of Fredericksburg; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Bryant of Stafford; one brother-in-law, Armond J. Booth of Fredericksburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bryant was the son of the late Ralph Allen Bryant and Mattie Bloxton Bryant. He was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Bryant Booth and Hazel Dora Bryant; and one brother, Donald J. Bryant.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Ray Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in Stafford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Eric Breeden, Jason Bryant, Barrett Fines, Richard McKenney, Mike Meador and Sidney Stevens.
