This Colonial Forge swimmer shares his thoughts on superstitions, tennis injuries and the NFL.
How did you get your start in swimming?
I've swam ever since I was 7. It's a good sport. It gives you endurance. It started off being my only sport, but I am a tennis player as well.
What sport are you better at?
I'm probably better at tennis now. Gradually I started playing more tennis than swimming.
Do you have any odd sports superstitions?
Before my [swimming] relays, the whole team rubs my chest because I have a little bit of hair there. I guess it's for luck.
Do you have any hobbies outside of swimming, tennis and school?
I watch a lot of NFL football.
Who's your favorite player?
It was Jerome Bettis before he retired. It'll still be him.
Pick for the Super Bowl?
I'll tell you who I don't want to see: New England. They've won too many recently.
But if you had to choose one team?
I kind of want to see Peyton Manning [and the Colts] win one.
Are you in any clubs at school?
I am in TSA, which is the Technology Student Association. We do anything that deals with technology, and we go to competitions. This year we're doing an architectural model.
Do you want to make a career in that?
Right now I'm looking at being an engineer, either civil or mechanical.
Do you have a favorite class at school?
It'd probably be one of my technology classes: Intro to Engineering and Principles of Technology.
What's the best advice you've been given?
If you seen an opportunity, take it.
Who told you that?
My grandfather. It was pertaining to academics. I guess it has come in handy. If I see a potential opportunity, I try to jump right on it.
If you had $1 million, what would you do with it?
I'd probably invest and save up a lot of it and get a nice car.
Any particular kind?
Something not too expensive. I wouldn't want to pay the insurance on it.
That's pretty conservative.
Eventually, I'd get a Dodge Viper.
What's your most embarrassing sports moment?
