Peter J. Olenick Jr.

Peter J. Olenick Jr., 84, of King George County died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Carriage Hill Rehab & Nursing Center.

Pete was born in Westhoff, Texas, and served in the Navy during World War II. He attended Schreiner College, the University of Texas and George Washington University. His career in the Navy spanned 37 years, active duty and civil service. He retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, in 1980 as a mechanical engineer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; a son, Peter J. Olenick III and his wife, Mary Frances, and a daughter, Mary Beth Carter and her husband, Wayland "Dee" Carter III, all of King George.

Other survivors include three granddaughters, Mary Jo Brunner and her husband, Tom, Rachel Oney and her husband, Eric, and Cathleen Zeytoonian and her husband, Dan; two grandsons, Wayland D. Carter IV and Joseph Ryan Carter; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph Brunner, Lucia May Oney and Amber Oney.

The family will receive friends at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, on Friday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be said following the visitation at 7 p.m.

A Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Chapel, Naval Support Activity South Potomac, Dahlgren, on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2:30 p.m. Photo identification is required to enter the main gate. Interment will follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2217 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401; or to Knights of Columbus 7812, Box 834, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.
