As a Virginia taxpayer and an alumnus of Mary Washington College, I am outraged at the frivolous spending of the new president.
Paying $2.5 million for a mansion that is supposedly going to be gutted to make offices seems rather irresponsible. Why wouldn't the university just build offices at its Stafford campus? With the ability to telecommute, the offices don't need to be down the street.
Maybe the president isn't going to use the mansion as offices but rather as a place to entertain affluent and influential friends.
I think it's time for the community and the state to examine the president's motives before we are left with millions of dollars wasted and a president who used Mary Washington as a steppingstone to a more prestigious job.
Let's not forget that Mr. Frawley came from Washington, where frivolous government spending is not an issue.
