Calvin B. Schools
Calvin Brent Schools, 83, of Port Royal, formerly of Tappahannock, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007.
He is survived by his sister, Lillian S. Schools of Tappahannock; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha D. Schools.
Calvin was born in Caret, one of 10 brothers and sisters, the children of Rosser Leonidas and Alice Kathryn Schools.
He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Burma and China from 1943 to 1945. He graduated from Bob Jones University and was a school teacher in Anne Arundel County, Md., and Cobb County, Ga., schools.
Early in his career, he worked in the Maryland horse racing industry. Upon retirement, he worked in the personnel office at Fort A.P. Hill and later worked for Carolina Stone Co.
He enjoyed music and playing the organ and piano for numerous churches throughout Northern Neck communities.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 719 Water St., Port Royal.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church, Box 113, Port Royal, Va. 22535; or to Special Love Programs for Children with Cancer, 117 Youth Development Center, Winchester, Va. 22602.
Calvin warmed the hearts of many with his good nature, love of the church and delightful sense of humor.
The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, Mid-River Cancer Center and Warsaw Health Care Center for their tender care during his illness.
