Beware of fluoride; it's linked to many woes
An article on administering fluoride to students raises several questions ["Students to 'swish' " Jan. 28]. Fluoride is an industrial byproduct of the nuclear and aluminum industries. Disposal is cost-prohibitive, so it is sold to municipalities to add to drinking water. Germany, Holland, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, and France have banned its use. Fluoride is linked to autism, Alzheimer's, atherosclerosis, brain neural damage, ADHD, and joint problems. Thyroid patients must drink bottled water because fluoride replaces the thyroid's iodine, causing metabolism problems. You can't boil it out because it's chemically dissolved, unlike chlorine, which evaporates as steam. Fluoride causes osteosarcoma (bone cancer), as indicated in a 2006 Harvard University national case-control study, with exposure "during growth" peaking from 6 to 8 years of age. Dr. Thomas Levy has stated that fluoride, at levels lower than in public water supplies, inhibits DNA repair and affects immunity.
