Eagles again sweep CAC swim crowns

For the fifth straight year, the University of Mary Washington swept the Capital Athletic Conference swim titles.

The UMW women made it a perfect 17 for 17, nearly lapping the field at the CAC championships at St. Mary's (Md.) College. The Eagles scored 1,007 points to 523 for runner-up Marymount.

UMW's men won their 13th title, defeating second-place York (Pa.) 750-607.

UMW's Dale Parker, a senior from Massaponax High Schooll, was named CAC men's swimmer of the Year after winning the 200-yard breast stroke by seven seconds (2:10.40). Freshman Laura Graesser won the women's rookie of the year, and coach Matt Kinney won the women's CAC coach of the year.

Yesterday, UMW's Maureen Greenlee broke her fourth meet record, winning the 100 freestyle (52.79), and Tricia Dilger set a meet record in the 200 breast (2:25.74). Other UMW winners included Abby Koch in the 1,650 free (18:02.33), Luke Moss in the men's 200 backstroke (1:55.71), Lorena de la Garza in the 200 butterfly (2:07.95) and the women's 400 free relay (3:34.62).

TENNIS

UMW's women beat Division I opponents George Mason (9-0) and Towson (5-4) yesterday, sweeping thedoubles each time. Becky Morse-Karzen was the only Eagle to win both her singles matches.

On Saturday, the 11t-ranked UMW men opened by beating Division I George Mason 7-0 and losing 6-1 to Richmond.

Riding

Stephanie Kulakowski (advanced walk/trot/canter), Hannah Woll (novice flat), Samantha Rizzi (intermediate fences), and Jessica VanBrocklin (open fences and open flat) earned first-place ribbons for UMW at yesterday's Goucher College in Towson. Md.
