Hickey named CAC's best
UMW women will host NCAA tournament games

University of Mary Washington junior center Liz Hickey was named Capital Athletic Conference player of the year by the league's coaches, as she helped lead the Eagles to CAC regular-season and tournament titles.

UMW coach Deena Applebury was named coach of the year and Eagles senior Debbie Bruen was also a first-team selection.

Eighth-ranked UMW (26-2), which got 21 points from Hickey and 14 from Bruen on Saturday in the CAC tournament final, will host Notre Dame (Md.) on Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Christopher Newport plays Dickinson (Pa.) at 4:30. Friday's winners will meet on Saturday at 7 p.m., with the survivor advancing to next weekend's regional semifinals.

Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for seniors, students and children, with children under age 2 admitted for free. Advance tickets are available through the UMW athletic department.

Second team: Jackie DeBorger (Cath.); Meghan Phillips (Salis.); Maria Rojas (Cath.); Allie Scott (St. Mary's); Shadeae Swan (Gou.); Stephanie Witko (Mary.).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

UMW 18, Sweet briar 1

Senior midfielder Meaghan O'Leary tied the UMW school record with seven assists as the 12th-ranked UMW women defeated Sweet Briar College.

The Eagles (2-0) used four goals each from junior Caitlin Erickson and senior Kaitlyn Barker, with Julia Milner and Brittany Butler each scoring two goals apiece.

The Eagles visit second-ranked Gettysburg College tomorow at 4 p.m.
