Whitestone Farm will be first-rate
Betsy Carter's Horse Scene
Date published: 3/2/2007

IF THE WEATHER continues to be springlike, we might be able to return to serious riding soon. Good idea, too, since the local summer show season begins in April.

A new show facility will be welcoming exhibitors soon. It is Whitestone Farm owned by Kristen Pruitt. Whitestone will be not only a wonderful show grounds, it will also be a boarding barn with trainer, Carol Hawley.

According to Pruitt, the barn already has a waiting list thought it won't be completed until April. When it is finished, it will have 20 stalls, wash stall, kitchen, laundry room, tack room with separate office and tack room for the administration. The barn will have a 14-foot aisle with dutch doors facing outside.

The 95-acre farm has six paddocks at approximately four acres each, three at one acre each and two dry lots. Paddocks are double fenced with 16-foot aisles and automatic waterers.

Pruitt, a builder with a degree from Virginia Intermont in horsemanship said the barn and pastures have been in the design process for four years.

There are two fenced riding rings with all weather footing consisting of sand and crumb rubber. The larger of the two rings is 150-by-310 feet and will be used for the shows while the smaller ring, 100-by-120 feet, will be used for the schooling ring.

Whitestone Farm is located on Elys Ford Road in Spotsylvania.

Whitestone's show dates are: May 19 with judge Linda Reynolds; June 16 with Glenn Moody; July 7 with J.T. Tallon; Aug. 4 with Meg Rhodes; Sept. 1 with Sandy Gerald; and Oct. 13 with our home town favorite, Wayne Eubank.
