Gettysburg drubs UMW in doubleheader

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Gettysburg College yesterday, losing 8-0 and 5-3.

In the opener, the Bullets limited the Eagles to just two singles by Riley Gorman and Tom McDermott. Gettysburgh roughed up Eagle pitching for eight runs on 16 hits, with a four-run second inning keying the victory.

In game two, the Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Bullets struck for four runs in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth for the victory.

UMW (2-2-1) will host SUNY-New Paltz for a noon doubleheader today at Dickinson Stadium.

Men's lacrosse

Senior attack Pete Collins scored a pair of goals, and freshman Brian Meaney added a goal and two assists to lead the Eagles to a 7-3 win over Randolph-Macon College yesterday in Ashland.

After a scoreless first quarter, UMW opened a 2-1 halftime lead, and scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter totake control of the game entering the fourth quarter. Marc D'Eredita, Matt Weiss, Brent Fisk, and Matt Morrell each tallied goals for UMW.

The Eagles (2-2) will host McDaniel College next saturday at 1 p.m.

Softball

The Eagles dropped two games on Friday night and two games yesterday at the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament.

On Friday, the Eagles fell to Emory and Henry College, 3-0, and then 5-2 to Christopher Newport University in eight innings. Yesterday, the Eagles fell to Methodist College, 6-2, and to Moravian College, 5-0.

The Eagles (1-5) will host Mary Baldwin College on March 14 at 2:30 p.m.
