Leocadia M. Janis
Leocadia Meloy "Kay" Janis, 86, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at her home. She received her bachelor's degree from Mundelein College and her master's degree from Loyola University. Mrs. Janis was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Woman's Club. She was a longtime volunteer with St. Vincent DePaul and St. Mary Magdalenes, and a counter volunteer at the church. She also was an American Red Cross Gray Lady volunteer at Mary Washington Hospital. Mrs. Janis had retired as a school teacher with the Chicago Board of Education. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Joseph Janis; her parents, Urban and Florence Meloy; her sister, Aurelia Meloy Mayer; and her brothers, Neil, Thomas and Urban Meloy. Survivors include her children, William V. Janis of Manassas, Patrick U. Janis, and his wife, Bethla, of Hartwood, Mary Janis Kassock of Fredericksburg, Anne Janis Deane and her husband, George, of St Cloud, Fla., Joseph A. Janis and his wife, Margaret, of Apopka, Fla., Margaret Janis Hughes and her husband, Dennis, of Apopka, and Neil M. Janis of Fredericksburg: 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at noon in Quantico National Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with visitation to follow until 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, Box 1493, College Station, Fredericksburg, Va. 22402; or to Mary Washington Hopice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
