Kitty, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 9, 2007, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born Dec. 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Nellie Armstrong Hearn Gouldman and John Thomas Hearn. She was a proud member of the 1954 graduating class of James Monroe High School and served on the alumni committee. She attended Mary Washington College. She had a loving marriage of 39 years to William H. Metz, who preceded her in death in 1998. Adored and truly loved by her family and friends, she was an inspiration to all.

She is survived by her eldest daughter, Catherine "Edye" Hill and son-in-law, Ron Hill, of Stafford; her son William H. "Billy" Metz Jr. of Stafford; and her daughter, Vanessa Jean Metz and daughter-in-law, Karen Gibson, of Glen Allen. Her cherished grandchildren include Virginia Leigh "Gindy" Hill, Justin Hill, William Cole Metz and Krystal Gibson. She was blessed with four great-grandbabies, Alexis Janae, William Tyrese "Ty," Christopher Noah and Elijah Trent Hill.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles M. "Pete" Hearn.

Surviving are her brothers, John Thomas "J.T." Hearn and his wife, Phyllis, of Harrisonburg and James Batson Hearn and dearly devoted sister-in-law, Peggy, of Colonial Beach; her one and only beloved sister, Virginia Hearn Whiting of Fredericksburg; and many precious and loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Mullins & Thompson Fredericksburg Chapel on Tuesday, March 13, from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, March 14, at 9 a.m., with Pastor Steve Hay officiating. Pallbearers include Jay Hearn, Billy Hearn, Bill Legge, Ron Hill and Justin Hill. Internment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
