British pop singer Lily Allen is upbeat and self-assured on her new 'Alright Still.'

BY LEA SANFORD

British pop-rocker Lily Allen is a strong and independent woman with a musical style that spans everything from pop to ska to rap to rock. Her debut album, "Alright Still," showcases her infectious attitude and interesting sound perfectly.

Already having produced two singles--the most successful being a VH1 favorite, "Smile," the cheerful, poppy album seems to be putting Allen on the map. She is scheduled to appear on the Late Show with David Letterman on June 18, and is preparing for a string of concerts and media appearances during the month.

Allen is a refreshing change from all of the women in the spotlight as of late (Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, etc.) Her self-assured and confident lyrics convey her contentment with her life and individuality in songs like "Everything's Just Wonderful":

"I wanna be able to eat Spaghetti Bolognese/ And not feel bad about it for days and days and days/ In the magazines they talk about weight-loss/ If I buy those jeans I can look like Kate Moss/ Oh no, it's not the life I chose/ But I guess that's the way that things go."

"Alright Still" is an album worth listening to, whether you want to hear a vocally strong artist or get a little confidence boost from her positive message. It's a must-hear for girls interested in new music.

Keep an eye on Allen, because great things are sure to come. Check out her Web site, lilyallenmusic.com, for more info on upcoming concerts and appearances, as well as to view her blog, listen to rare mixes and find lyrics to her songs.
