Logan seeks re-election

Date published: 6/14/2007

By DAN TELVOCK

Spotsylvania County Supervisor Jerry Logan told his wife Mary that if he ran a strong campaign for the special election last year, he'd have a good chance of running unopposed this year.

"It looks like I will be around for four more years," Logan said.

Logan announced this week he's running for re-election to the Courtland District seat. The race will be uncontested.

Logan served on the Board of Supervisors from 1996 to 1999. He also served on the board of directors of Central Virginia Battlefields Trust from 2000 to 2006.

Preserving battlefields is a priority, Logan said. The last vote he took in 1999--and he was the lone vote--was against the original rezoning request for the historic Mullins Farm that changed it from rural to commercial.

His first month on the board, this time around, Logan made the motion to approve a Toll Brothers' rezoning that included the protection of 74 acres of the Chancellorsville Battlefield on Mullins Farm. More than 200 acres are now preserved after agreements with supervisors, developers and the Civil War Preservation Trust.

Logan said he's proud that in 1996 he was able to foster relations between Fredericksburg and county officials to work together on the Motts Run Water Treatment Plant.

"That was one of my best projects and it is paying off every day and continues to benefit both localities," he said.

More recently, Logan has supported creating a First Impressions Commission to improve the county's appearance. He's asked for more litter control.

"It's made a remarkable difference," he said of litter control on State Route 3.
