Mildred L. Chick
Mildred Linthicum Chick of Fredericksburg died peacefully Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the age of 92. She was born in Halifax County, the third daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. William Allan Linthicum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Chick, and two sisters, Shirley L. Spruill of Richmond and Virginia Allan Brown of Gloucester. She is survived by her sister, Amelita L. Huffman of Pensacola, Fla.; and six nieces and nephews, Lita H. Brown of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Felicia H. Merritt of Wilmington, N.C., William W. Huffman of Denver, Colo., J. Carlyle Brown Jr. and William Keith Brown, both of Gloucester and Joseph E. Spruill Jr. of Tappahannock. She also is survived by her faithful and beloved caregivers, Mary Schmitz and Jean Jagels, both of Fredericksburg. Mrs. Chick was a graduate of Longwood College and received her master's degree from the University of Virginia. She spent her career as a teacher and guidance counselor at James Monroe High School. She retired in 1976. She was a member of the Fredericksburg Woman's Club, a life member of Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary, the Kenmore Association and the Fredericksburg Museum. She had been a faithful member of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church since 1948. A funeral will be held at the church on Saturday, July 21, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Larry Lenow and the Rev. Nancy Compher officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21, in Westview Cemetery in Farmville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Building Fund, 308 Hanover St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
