It's All About Roses, Saturday, Sept. 1, 9:30 a.m.-noon, Chatham Manor, 120 Chatham Lane, Stafford County. This First Saturdays in the Garden event is free, open to the public and held rain or shine. Beate Jensen, horticulturist at Gari Melchers Home and Studio, will explain and demonstrate "Propagating Roses" at 9:40 a.m. Rick Brown, president of the Fredericksburg Rose Society, will speak on "Earthkind Roses and Roses With Fragrance" at 10:45 a.m. Both speakers will be available to answer questions. This program is sponsored by the National Park Service, the Master Gardener Association of the Central Rappahannock Area and Virginia Cooperative Extension. No registration required. 540/658-8000.
Fall 2007 Master Gardener Class, Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Sept. 11, Ladysmith Branch Library, 7199 Clara Smith Drive, Ruther Glen. This 11-week class is requisite training for volunteer Master Gardener designation. Intensive instruction in proper horticulture practices. Applications being accepted until Sept. 4 or until the limited-size class is full. $135 includes cost of manual.
