Brooke area residents will have the chance to discuss bringing postal services closer to home.

Aquia District Supervisor Paul Milde is holding a town hall meeting next week about the possibility of establishing a post office in the Brooke neighborhood.

The U.S. Postal Service closed the Brooke Post Office in February of 2006.

The Postal Service determined demographics and revenue did not meet the need for a full-service facility.

Since then, rural carriers have sold stamps, and picked up and delivered mail. Brooke residents also are served by the Stafford Post Office on U.S. 1.

Residents have received questionnaires from the Postal Service. The surveys will help postal service officials determine the need for a full-service facility in the Brooke area. Copies of the questionnaire also will be available at the meeting .
