Messy underwear led to an even bigger mess for a criminal suspect in Fredericksburg Tuesday, police said.

City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said a young man soiled himself while running from a police officer at the Snowden Village Apartment complex near the new police station.

After being taken to jail, Bledsoe said, the man requested that he be allowed to clean up. When he took off the dirty underwear, police said, out fell a baggie of marijuana.

Roger Minor, 22, of Spotsylvania had a possession of marijuana charge added to the list of charges he'd already accumulated that evening.

According to Bledsoe, the incident started about 5 p.m. when a woman called police and reported that Minor was hanging out in the parking lot.

Minor was wanted in Fredericksburg on a charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

A city officer confronted Minor, Bledsoe said, but left after the suspect claimed to be someone else and produced supporting identification.

The woman called back later and informed police that the officer had been misled. She insisted that it was Minor who was still hanging around the complex.

The officer returned and this time the suspect ran when the officer tried to take him into custody.

During the brief pursuit, police said, the suspect had an accident and was apprehended.

Minor was arrested on the firearms charged and was also charged with providing false information to avoid arrest and obstruction of justice.

The marijuana charge came after he was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
