An argument over the TV remote control may have led to a double murder Thursday in Fauquier County.
"It is my understanding that these people were mad at each other about who was using the channel changer and sitting in certain chairs," Fauquier County Sheriff Charlie Ray Fox said yesterday.
The resulting altercation, which occurred on Blackwells Mill Road near Goldvein Thursday night, left 83-year-old Robert E. Hawkins Sr. and his son, 35-year-old Robert E. Hawkins Jr., dead.
Anthony James Poole, who is Hawkins Sr.'s son-in-law and the younger Hawkins' brother-in-law, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder.
All three men lived at the Blackwells Mill Road residence, according to Maj. Paul Mercer.
Deputies were called to the home about 8:11 after a shooting was reported. They found both victims dead from gunshot wounds to the body, Mercer said.
"All this had evidently been brewing for some time," said Fox. "Apparently [Poole] just snapped."
The 41-year-old Poole is being held without bond in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.
