Whitestone looks back--and ahead

Betsy Carter's Horse Scene

Date published: 10/19/2007

WHITESTONE Farm's inaugural hunter show series has concluded on a high note as turnout increased with each show and plans are made for next year's shows.

The High Point Trainer award went to Carol Hawley, who had an unusually large group of leadliners and pre short stirrup riders.

High Point Owner, a new award to honor the quiet person with the checkbook, went to Shannon Stepp. Her pony Fancy won the Pleasure Pony championship with Shannon riding, and her horse Racefield Royalty, ridden by Beth Linton, won the Maiden Championship.

Kassidy Scott and her pony Baxter won the Large Pony hunter championship. Kassidy also won equitation awards with a champion in Pony equitation and a reserve champion in Student equitation. These awards show that Kassidy is a well-rounded rider.

Next season Whitestone Farm plans to start the season with a team classic April 19, only for those riders who are members of a team. Each team can be from four to six members.

"The best strategy for a team would be that team members do not compete against one another. It would be ideal to have a winning rider in each division," said Kathleen Bonner, show manager.

Teams members do not all have to come from the same barn and the teams should have names. Points will be tallied as usual with ribbons for places 1-6 and champions and reserve in each division. In addition, there will be team championships and reserves with prize money totally $1,500.00.

The points earned during the Team Classic will not count toward the Whitestone year-end awards but will count toward the VHSA and BHSA year-end points.
