Colonial Forge High School, and Democrats, should be ashamed

Date published: 11/4/2007

This is regarding the article titled "Kaine's school visit upsets Republicans" [Nov. 1]. Exactly how stupid does the administration at Colonial Forge High School, the Young Democrats Club, the county and state Democratic Party, and the Stafford School Board think the parents and students in Stafford County are?

Apparently, they think we're very stupid. Anytime a candidate for a public office steps outside the district he currently represents (the 99th House District) and into the area he is seeking to represent five days prior to an election, and speaks on education issues to a group of interested (or uninterested) listeners, that is a political event.

If, in fact, the Democratic Party of Virginia "billed [the visit] in releases as part of Kaine's weeklong get-out-the-vote tour with Democratic candidates," all the more reason the School Board should have prohibited it.

I find this to be gross incompetence on the part of the school and the School Board, and quite typical of the dirty ways this campaign has been run as of late.

As an admitted political activist for more than 30 years, I find the idea of using a school club in this manner disgusting. I would be surprised if Gov. Kaine traveled to Stafford County to get out the Republican vote.

Perhaps Colonial Forge enjoys being in the news in such controversial ways. I certainly hope that the other schools in the county will behave in a manner that is more in keeping with the county guidelines regarding political candidates of any persuasion.

i dont understand why this writer is getting so upset for. these kids are just trying to get involved and i dont understand why he is getting upset with colonial forge highschool they are just giving these students a chance to get involved with politics and i think it would also be a good learning experience for the students

It's a great idea (posted by travelin_bone , Nov. 5, 2007 10:39 am)    0 likes
Young people need to get involved the voting process. The writer seems to think that this presentation was a form of propoganda or exploiting the vulnerable ONLY because it wasn't his side of the fence that was represented. Seeing as they're called the "Young Democrats" leads me to believe they've formed their opinions already.

Wish they came to my kid's school (posted by savedbygracealone , Nov. 5, 2007 7:13 am)    0 likes
I have no problem with the democrats or Republicans visiting schools. Seems to me that the kids that are too young to vote just get a civics lesson, and the ones old enough to vote get a close up view of how stupid some politicians are. Because high schools represent such a HUGE voter base. Democrats have more votes at the day labor stations. Kids ask the BEST questions of them. I think all the presidential debates should be held at high schools. Wouldn't that be interesting?

Bellyaching Whiners. (posted by thediesel , Nov. 4, 2007 2:04 pm)    0 likes
Most of the School Board members and candidates I know are registered Republicans. This decision was outside the authority of the School Board. This kind of whining will do little more than boost the membership list of the Young Democrats. Grow a brain and stop complaining about stuff that makes the Republican party look pro-censorship and anti-free speech. Cut it out now. Idiots.

Perhaps the repuglicans doth protest (posted by rikkirat , Nov. 4, 2007 1:07 pm)    0 likes
