Gov. Tim Kaine remains in the spotlight after a Colonial Forge visit many charge was politically motivated. |
This is regarding the article titled "Kaine's school visit upsets Republicans" [Nov. 1]. Exactly how stupid does the administration at Colonial Forge High School, the Young Democrats Club, the county and state Democratic Party, and the Stafford School Board think the parents and students in Stafford County are?
Apparently, they think we're very stupid. Anytime a candidate for a public office steps outside the district he currently represents (the 99th House District) and into the area he is seeking to represent five days prior to an election, and speaks on education issues to a group of interested (or uninterested) listeners, that is a political event.
If, in fact, the Democratic Party of Virginia "billed [the visit] in releases as part of Kaine's weeklong get-out-the-vote tour with Democratic candidates," all the more reason the School Board should have prohibited it.
I find this to be gross incompetence on the part of the school and the School Board, and quite typical of the dirty ways this campaign has been run as of late.
As an admitted political activist for more than 30 years, I find the idea of using a school club in this manner disgusting. I would be surprised if Gov. Kaine traveled to Stafford County to get out the Republican vote.
Perhaps Colonial Forge enjoys being in the news in such controversial ways. I certainly hope that the other schools in the county will behave in a manner that is more in keeping with the county guidelines regarding political candidates of any persuasion.
