The Fauquier County School Board last night named Jonathan L. Lewis as its new division superintendent.
Lewis, who will assume his new duties on Jan. 1, will replace David Martin who left in late August to assume a similar position in North Carolina.
Lewis, 56, is currently superintendent of Poquoson City public schools, a position he has held for nine years.
Fauquier's new superintendent began his 28-year education career in 1979 as an English teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond.
He served as principal at both Armstrong and Lee-Davis high schools in Richmond and as assistant superintendent in Hanover County.
Lewis was born in Allentown, Pa. but grew up in the Charlottesville area.
He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond, his master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and earned his doctorate at the College of William and Mary.
Lewis and his wife, Claudette, have two grown children.
