BY TAFT COGHILL JR. Chancellor standout junior fullback and linebacker Dominique Wallace was able to witness history on his recruiting trip to Notre Dame this past Saturday. Wallace sat in the stands at Notre Dame Stadium as the struggling Fighting Irish lost 46-44 to Navy in triple overtime. The victory ended Navy's 43-game losing streak to the Fighting Irish. "It was crazy," Wallace said. "It was probably one of the best games I've ever seen, and to be there in person made it even better." Wallace (6-foot, 230 pounds) leads the Battlefield District with 1,201 rushing yards. He also has 15 rushing touchdowns and two defensive scores. Wallace, who is being recruited by several major colleges, said he's been orally offered a scholarship by Virginia. He's expecting a scholarship offer from Penn State, too, but has yet to be offered by Notre Dame. He said the Fighting Irish's courtship is in the early stages. Wallace said Notre Dame is an attractive school because of its rich tradition, but also because his mother, Brenda Wallace, grew up in nearby Plymouth, Ind. On Saturday, Wallace was joined by his mother, two brothers and Chancellor assistant coaches Stan Clements and Don Joy. They made the 10-hour drive to South Bend, Ind. directly after Chancellor lost 35-13 to James Monroe on Friday night. "They have a pretty neat tradition and I think a lot of that stuff was pretty impressive to him," Clements said of Wallace's visit. "The atmosphere and the way the students were involved in the game was just unreal." Meadows sets mark James Monroe linebacker Stephen Meadows became the first player in school history to record more than 700 tackles, Yellow Jackets' head coach Rich Serbay said. Serbay said the 6-foot-4, 228-pound Meadows had 695 tackles entering JM's game at Chancellor on Friday. Meadows made 12 solo tackles and four assists in that game taking his career total to 711. Meadows has started for the Yellow Jackets since he was a freshman. Serbay said he's "one of the best linebackers to ever play at JM." "He started out as a ninth-grader and matured into an outstanding football player," Serbay said. "I'm really proud of him." Meadows has scholarship offers from Old Dominion, Towson (Md.) and Norfolk State. Three straight for JM The James Monroe junior varsity field hockey team captured its third straight district title with a 1-0 overtime victory over Courtland last week. Sarah White scored the game-winning goal for the Yellow Jackets with 2:13 left in the first overtime period. Mia Day and Zarah Brock both assisted on the goal.
