The Fredericksburg Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will bestow service medals on area veterans and celebrate its 110-year anniversary. The chapter was founded Nov 11, 1897, by Nannie Seddon Barney of Fredericksburg. Special speaker will be Stacy Humphreys. Refreshments served. Holiday Music at Old Salem Church, Sunday, Dec. 2, 6 p.m., State Route 3 just west of Fredericksburg. The decorated and candlelit church comes alive with choral music by the congregation from the new Salem Baptist Church. Parking is at the adjacent church. Free. Santa Claus is Coming to Chatham, Saturday, Dec. 15, 1-4 p.m., Chatham Manor, State Route 218 off State Route 3, Stafford. Living-history interpreter Kevin Rawlings will appear as Civil War-era Santa Claus. Evergreen Shade will perform period songs. At 1 p.m., Rawlings will present a program for adults and older children about the history of Santa Claus. From 2 to 4 p.m., he will give shorter programs for children of all ages explaining the difference between his costume and one of today. Sponsored by the National Park Service. 540/654-5532.
Holiday Raffle, to benefit the Ellwood restoration project. The items available are an 8-foot-3-inch by 11-foot-5-inch Oriental rug; a decorative vase turned from the Ellwood catalpa tree that is signed and dated by the artist; and a hand-crafted quilt of blue and white colors in a traditional Colonial Williamsburg design. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. The drawing will be held Dec. 8 and winners will choose their prize by the order of drawing.
