Phil Forgit is the best man for the job
On Dec. 11, the voters of the 1st Congressional District will have the civic duty of voting for a representative to replace the late Rep. Jo Ann Davis. Reading the headlines of The Free Lance-Star might give one the mistaken idea that only one person is running. In fact, the person I believe is clearly the most qualified to fill this seat has not been named in the headlines of this newspaper. He is Philip Forgit, a young man whose experience and service to our country make him the best man for the job. Philip Forgit served in Iraq with a naval special warfare unit and was awarded the Bronze Star. He called upon his teaching background to begin a school for Iraqis in basic literacy and citizenship, to enable them to sustain the democratic form of government that our young men and women are sacrificing so much to give them. He received the 2005 National Education Association Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence in recognition of his service in the classroom back home in Virginia. Philip Forgit understands the war in a way that no one who has not served there can. He understands the needs of returning servicemen and women, and will work to ensure that our country honors their service by providing the benefits they're entitled to.
