Emergency notifications sent;ice storm simulated.
Date published: 11/1/2007 The University of Mary Washington conducted the first test of an upgraded emergency operations plan Thursday. Security Director Ruth Lovelace says they alerted students and staff in advance. They hoped to find out how well they would do getting back to operational mode within 72 hours of an emergency. Lovelace says their tabletop exercise simulated what would happen if a major ice storm hit the Fredericksburg area. They sent out more than 2,000 e-mail, pager and text test messages. Lovelace says only about 100 of them were not received. One area of improvement, with a reduced workforce during a weather event, Lovelace would like departments to be cross trained.
