Proper government agencies must deal with immigration legality
Proper government agencies must deal with immigration legality

Why did we not ask the political candidates to distinguish between “illegal” and “legal” immigrants? I fear we are breeding a hatred that we have fought to extinguish for the past 100 years.

None of our recent candidates struck me as defining the problem of illegal immigration and offering true solutions.

Prince William County officials have recently considered saddling local law enforcement officials with the additional responsibility of questioning traffic violators regarding their immigration status. Of course, probable cause is needed to stop suspects in the first place. This policy encourages “profiling.”

I believe there are government agencies capable of enforcing laws regarding illegal immigrants. It should not be the responsibility of the employer to determine what is or is not a forgery of documentation. This is not the employer’s field of expertise.

The IRS is updated every three months regarding an employee’s work status and Social Security number. This is commonly known as an “employer’s quarterly report.”

Send U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services personnel out to enforce the rules, and give local law enforcement a break!

Regarding undocumented illegal aliens being paid under the table, should this not fall under the jurisdiction of the IRS? Of course it should. We have systems in place to address illegal immigrants. We simply need to place the burden on the correct officials and insist that they perform their jobs.

It saddens me to see our country revert back to ways of hatred that previously divided our people so greatly. I fear we are cultivating mass prejudice through self-serving politics.
